It was a real flight to nowhere.
Passengers aboard a recent American Airlines international flight were stunned after the plane turned around five hours into the journey – with no explanation.
One of the messy flyers detailed the aerial view in a viral Instagram video.
“American Airlines needs a lesson in effective communication,” Jimin Lee, 41, captioned the clip of the incident, which happened in September. 7 aboard an AA flight from Dallas, Texas, to Seoul, South Korea, the Daily Mail reported.
The Post reached out to both Lee and American Airlines for comment.
In the clip, titled “new fear unlocked”, Lee included footage of a headrest display depicting the plane’s flight path as it traveled across the US and part of the Pacific Ocean before turning around and returning to Texas .
Worst of all, crew members gave “zero explanation” for the flight’s cancellation to Incheon International Airport via Insta post.
“Just relax and enjoy the rest of our flight,” a flight attendant is heard saying on the phone.
Lee wrote that her “spirit had left” her at that point.
Lee claimed that the crew later said they would divert because “the starboard side of the [the] bathrooms” weren’t working and he apparently joked that the pilots asked for a screwdriver to “fix” it.
The distraught flyer eventually sought solace in the meals he had on board.
“The only vice I had available was hot [Cheetos],” Lee wrote along with footage of herself munching on dusty fries as the flight home.
She added that she needed “a ramyun [Korean for instant noodles] and a strong drink.”
The ill-fated flight eventually returned to the Lone Star State “nine hours” after takeoff, according to Lee, who wrote that he was “lost for words.”
Fortunately, it appears the Texan eventually made it to Korea on another flight, according to subsequent videos showing her enjoying the sights and flavors in the East Asian country.
Instagram users were horrified by Lee’s escape from hell, with one writing, “Just chill would make me feel anxious.”
“I hope you didn’t have any kids with you! Yeah, that’s pretty scary!” said another.
A third stated, “I avoid AA at all costs.”
However, some armchair air travel experts suggested the pilots were simply erring on the side of caution and did not want to create “mass panic” by announcing the nature of the problem.
While the exact issue remains unclear, air captains have diverted planes for a variety of strange reasons, from an attack of in-flight diarrhea to a laptop that was stuck in place and posed a fire hazard.
